Making learning fun and engaging for kids
Many educational apps struggle to balance entertainment and learning, often making lessons feel either too rigid or too distracting. Ludiq required a design that maintained children's attention, encouraged exploration, and provided clear progress tracking for both kids and parents.
To create an engaging experience, I conducted user research focusing on children's interaction with digital interfaces. The app was designed with vibrant colors, intuitive navigation, and gamification elements like rewards and progress badges. The UI incorporated large, touch-friendly buttons and animated feedback to enhance engagement and usability. A separate dashboard for parents allowed them to monitor their child's learning progress.
Research Goals
Understand what parents and teachers value most when evaluating an educational app.
Identify which elements on the landing page build the most trust and encourage sign-ups.
Validate the clarity of messaging and visual hierarchy.
Methods Used
User Interviews with 6 parents and 3 elementary school teachers
Maze Testing with 2 landing page variations (A/B Test)
Surveys via Google Forms for first impressions and trust factors
Competitive Benchmarking against top kids’ learning platforms (e.g., Khan Kids, ABCmouse)
Key Takeaways
7 out of 9 users wanted to see real examples of what kids would learn before signing up
Strong preference for colorful, friendly visuals, but not too “babyish”
“Educational validation” (certifications, expert endorsements) increased user confidence
Parents needed reassurance about the educational value and safety of the app
Teachers wanted clarity on curriculum alignment and how to integrate it in class
Kids (indirect audience) were considered in visual language and tone
User Personas
Usability Tests
To ensure the landing page communicated value to both parents and teachers, we followed a user-centered design approach using:
Stakeholder interviews
Competitive benchmarking
A/B Testing with different hero sections
Usability testing with Maze
Results
The redesigned app increased session duration and user retention, with children spending more time engaging in educational activities. Parents appreciated the clear progress tracking, while usability tests showed that kids found the interface intuitive and enjoyable. The combination of gamification and structured learning made Ludiq an effective tool for interactive education.
